Children and Young People

We help as many children as we can in Uganda. We rescue street boys and provide a loving home for them where they are well fed, lead a happy life and receive a good education. They also hear the gospel and many have become Christians.

We also care for a group of other impoverished young Christians, sponsoring them through school and tertiary education whilst nurturing them as individuals and discipling them as Christians.

House of Hope

As you move around the towns and cities of Uganda you will very often find street boys. They’re dressed in rags and looking a bit grubby, often carrying a sack of old plastic bottles that they’re planning to sell for a little money.

Here are some of our boys how we first met them on the street. (The boy in bright yellow had already received some help and new clothes.)
They’ve usually gone to the street because they’re not loved and cared for at home. They’ve been treated like slaves, hoeing land from morning till night, beaten if they don’t work and not given enough to eat. Most of them can’t read or write because they’ve not been sent to school.

In the end they’ve decided that they can’t cope anymore, so they run away to the street, which is a frightening place for a young boy to be—some eight years old or younger. Nights are cold, and usually the boys are hungry. To try to take away the pain they sniff paraffin from little plastic bottles.

The Lord enabled our ministry to set up a home for these boys in March 2021 and we now have about 50. They now live in a loving Christian atmosphere—full of fun and joy. They get good food, attend an excellent little school, and are growing up in a safe environment.

We have been sharing the gospel and many have responded and been baptised. We have seen dramatic changes in many of the boys. Some of the older ones were so hard when they first came to us. Having got saved they have softened and even asked for their names to be changed: Siraj became Thomas; Sadam became Elijah. They always give testimonies of how their behaviour has changed since getting saved: ‘I used to steal but since becoming a believer I have stopped.’ 'I used to fornicate but now I'm different.'

They have become more disciplined and loving, and the older ones can now be seen caring for younger boys.

We believe God has great things in store for these boys.

The daily upkeep for these boys is quite considerable—food, clothing, school fees, medical bills, local staff. We would be extremely grateful if you would consider making a regular donation to them.

All money goes directly to the home in Uganda, apart from the small amount paid to PayPal who enable us to claim Gift Aid. We have no paid staff in the UK and all spending is tightly controlled and monitored from the UK.

The Zerubbabel Youth Team

We have a team of young Christians that we are training up to serve the Lord. We fund them through education and in the holidays we spend time together, training, studying the Bible and visiting chirches for ministry. When our directors are not around, they run everything themselves under the leadership of Calvin (third from the left). They are a remarkable team and really know how to pray, worship and serve the Lord. In the Uganda the work is called Zerubbabel Ministries. They help to care for the boys at the House of Hope.

Each morning in the holidays we have a Bible study which begins with the young people leading us in a time of worship.

The Mice

These young boys and girls are known as the mice and and when the directors are around they turn up regularly with a cheeky grin and peep around the door. We give them milk, sandwiches and fruit for breakfast. Then they borrow a football for a game in the yard or help us walk the dog. On the far right is Joseph. When we first met him he barely spoke and rarely smiled. We befriended him and gave him a soft toy and showed him lots of love. Now he is full of fun and relaxed about life. They come to church and are part of the Sunday school.
